Fine & Coarse Threads
Each diameter fastener has the different thread pitch number signifying the according threads number in stationary thread length(normal per inch). For same 1/2″ diameter bolt, the coarse thread is 13, this means there are 13 threads in every inch of the bolt shaft. While fine thread of 20, there are 20 threads for every inch.

Thread Tolerance & Classes
All bolts have specified thread dimensions for each diameter bolt and thread pitch. The thread tolerance is the specific amount of deviation between these dimensional limits. The looser tolerance means more deviation form the specified dimensions. The tighter tolerance means the threading must be more precise to the diameter and thread pitch.
Threads tolerance are categorized into 3 classes: 1, 2, 3.
- Class 1 is the loosest tolerance
- Class 2 is the most common for standard applications
- Class 3 is the the most precise

Rolling Threads VS Machining Threads
Depending on titanium materials and specific dimensions, TRT produces different threads by rolling or machining(cutting). There are main differences between rolled threads and machined threads.
Machined threads are manufactured by cutting away the internal root and flank of the thread. While rolled threads are formed by pressing the parts between two round dies or flat plates with thread pitch on face. Once parts move or roll through the dies, the threads are formed by pressure without cutting or removing any materials.
In thread rolling process, there are rounded root radius, this cold working process will increase the strength of titanium within the threads. For non-heat-treated fasteners, rolled threads parts have higher strengths than cut threads in threading areas. However, after heat treatments, rolled or machined threads have the same strength as the strength dictation.
